Design Methods

Design methods
The overall outcome of this brief was to create a library of 10 textures this was to coincided with our 3D project and allow us to texture our 3D model as well as progress my skills in texture making.
I feel that overall this project worked extremely well I have made ten pleasing textures and have even used 6 of them to texture my street model. However I feel that texturing is something that I do not enjoy as a form of design. I learnt how I take for granted all the things around me and am beginning to see how things in the world is textured and how you could create them within Photoshop.
I feel that I did very well with creating and developing the textures I used on my street and I found in depths ways of making these textures really stand out by not only using Photoshop but also when dragging the image into 3D max I found I can give it a real textured feel to make it more realistic.
However I feel that after creating these 6 very developed textures and using them I didn’t take any time to actually develop my other textures I feel that next time I would take the time to develop all textures I create not just the ones I planned to use.
In conclusion I feel that this project proved to be a learning curve, I’ve also discovered I like working that units coincide with each other and find that I can work more productively towards both project when they are linked in some way.

Final textures I made.

Game Idea Task mark 2 part two

This is the opening scene of the game where you get introduced into your character and how he came to be on earth and in the human relm. this would be seen as a cinematic usaully to set the tone for whole story line.

Dark Corruptor
The four figures stand dimly lit by the fading fire encircled by the glinting liquid pentagram. Their faces tattered and torn, disfigured as if in great pain. The sky darkens to the blackest night, the air its self seeming to heat up as the figures start their dark chanting. Only moments pass as their chanting loudens beyond the capability of mortals. A fell dark cloud circles the figures twisting between them like a serpent. Encased in the darkness the figures scream…
Agony
Pain
Hatred
All Fades to Nothingness
A figure arises from the glowing symbol on this tainted ground his body broken his left arm simply bone encased in flame. His face slender ragged with scars and a black tainted patch over his left eye. His blade a serrated katana with a blood red edge stained from centuries of endured combat, his clothes simply for hiding his dark twisted body, a long sleeve on his left arm that detaches to show his corrupted limb a face mask and his fringe to cover the truly horrific taint on his eye. He was tortured and bread for one purpose…Kill
The demon finally released didn’t deserve the punishment he endured, Even the truly evil should not be put through that agony. However now as his limbs fill with the dark energies those puny humans summoned. He contorts, shrivels, screeches, bone bursts from his back in an explosion of blood and skin wings now encase the dark solider and the only thought that pollutes his twisted dark mind is…Revenge.
“This World is MINE! They will know my torture, they will know my anger. They will know true pain!” The darkness within him screams for vengeance his body as tattered as it is will be the tool of his dark justice, this is his time.

Game Idea Task mark 2 part one

The Task
Individually, choose 1 area of design within the game concept and Develope this area.

Chosen Area
- Concept development: game mechanics, number of levels, story development (opening scenes…)
I have chosen the Concept of the game however more focusing on the Story line and opening scenes, allow me to practice my writing skills and test my creativity in descirption therefore allowing for designs views and ideas to truly be described.

Games idea Task

The Task
In groups of four produce a design concept/presentation for an
urban street game from one of the following:
- China/Japan
- New York
- India
- Russia
- Malaysia
You should refer to the design cycle
Try to cover all aspects of the design cycle.

The game idea my group came up with was called Dark Corruptor, our game would take place in new york city and would be based around your character being a demon summon from hell by a few un aware students. you kill your summoners and decide to take over the world this concept was meant ot finally be a bad guy in a game instead of the good guy or a guy being hunted while trying to work out who you are. instead your task is to raise hell its self into earth and rule as king of your new world.

I was voted team leader and therefore created a time plan and had to make sure my group where on task and on time. This was helpful for me because it aloud me to test my leadership skills and the group voting me shows that i show leadership skills and they trusted me. i also decided to write the story line to the game due to me hopefully advancing into storyline creation in games.

Adam was our researcher he focused very much on helpful images for the designer AJ and Jodie who were drawing the images on character design and background. he also researched demon design for Billy who was tasked in making a 3D model of a demon. due to time constraints he produced a demon head to allow imagination as to what the demons could become.

These are the images that were produced.

This image was the character design that Jodie came up with we happened to really enjoy this idea and alot of changes where made along the design process

This image was created by AJ and how she saw the world our character would create, there was alot of imput into how this world would be created.

This is the image that Bily created in the short time we were given to design this game, for such a short time this a quite a show of skills and we where all very happy with the outcome due to leaving billy to create this himself as he has a better knowledge of 3D then the rest of the team.
One of the reference images that we showed billy to kinda spark his creativity and inspire him to create his own style that was simailar.

Outline Statement

The textures I need to create for my library will focus around the apocalyptic theme so that I am able to integrate them into my 3D project. Therefore I will need to create textures such as sheet concrete, broken concrete, rusted metal, mud, grim on the walls and muddy water. These will be difficult textures to create however I know the basics behind them and therefore should be able to create them.

research pictures

theese are a few of the hundreds of pictures i took on a trip out of college on the hoe. to gather general texture inspiration and ideas. this helped because it linked into my 3D unit because i got some pictures of old and broken stone and old metal that i can use in my 3D work but also aloud me to look and now i could try and re create some of these textures in photoshop.

Textures Pack

Today we had a help lesson on making textures from stratch in photoshop
first one we did was a wooden effect then we did a stone effect in a little more moves. then a quick and easy metal texture, then water.

Wood
with the wood texture we grab two colours a yellow/orange colour then a darker brown/red then you click Filter - render - fibres play with the sliders and just play around to make your own wood texture. after you've got it you can image variation it. this worked very well because using the same image i could create many different styles of wood. Also Liquifying the image gave us the abilbity to put knots in the wood and curves.

Stone
stone was simple i grab two grey colours then do filter render clouds. then you go into to chanels and make a new chanel which will show up as black. we the filter clouds on the chanel. after that you go back to to RGB not alpha we then do lighting effects and pull the directional light. DO NOT USE OMNI OR SPOTLIGHT. play around with the directional light by clicking and draging one end of the line.

Metal
this was so simple. Filter Noise, Add noise. crank that up to maximum. then click it so its monochromic this will give you a very black and white screen like a TV on the wrong chanel. then we do filter Blur Motion blur and slide the slider along the middle of it will start to look like sheet metal.

Water
Greeny blue and a Blue. then you filter render cloud it to give us this greeny blue pattern. make a new layer. and cloud that layer then you Filter Sketch Crome. slide the chrome sliders to max. then right click the layer 1 and blending options and i used Drop shadow. because with my colours it gave me the best water effect.
